What causes acne?
Acne is a complex condition that depends basically on increased sebum production ( when you are going through hormonal imbalances... specially during adolescence or, if a woman, during your period) in conjunction with the accumulation of toxins deposited within your skin by your lymph system that can not otherwise get rid of them due to your intake of too much protein of poor quality.

What is trapping sebum within these sebaceous glands?
It can simply be some of the dead squamous cells from the outer stratum corneum that have fallen down into the areas around the hair follicles plugging the sebaceous glands. Or it may be excess protein toxins you have been eating that remain within your skin attracting to much moisture which the effect of ultimately 'pinching off' (ouch!) your sebaceous glands.
