Belly Fat - Why It Appears And How To Shed It

by Ben Pate

While it is a health risk, belly fat is a common problem in women. This problem seems to happen more as an individual gets older. Some of the contributing factors to this issue are changing hormones and genetics. There are a few risks that are associated with extra fat in this area and these are diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular problems. By learning how to lose belly fat and prevent it from compiling, you will lower your chances for certain health risks.

As we get older, our metabolism slows down. When this happens, gaining weight becomes easier and poses as a problem. Menopause plays a huge role and is another reason this may occur. Due to hormones not dispersing the fat correctly, what is found in the arms, hips, and legs moves into the abdominal area.

During menopause, hormones constantly change. When this happens, they do not break up the fat deposits as well and it adds up in the abdominal region. Aside from this, a stagnant active lifestyle and loss of exercise is usually the major factor.

The fact is, weight that is added to the belly is actually unhealthier than if you were to gain weight in other areas. If left alone, breast cancer, high blood pressure, and colorectal caner are just a few of the health problems you can anticipate. Problems with the cardiovascular system and gallbladder are common as well as heart disease and diabetes.

There are a few ways to find out if this problem is an issue for you. One way is to measure the waist and hip area. Keep in mind that although a calculation of your body mass index is usually correct, it isn't always accurate for women who are experiencing menopause. When measuring, apply a tape measure around the waist and hip area. This should be done at the belly button level. Breathe regularly and do not suck in your stomach. Results of 35 inches or more are considered unhealthy and need to be addressed. Some research shows that a number of 33 or more presents a risk. This is true no matter how much an individual weighs.

It is thought that the fat you can see and grab is the main problem and the unhealthy fat. This is not correct. This type of fat is unappealing but does not pose a risk. It's the visceral fat that is the main problem. Lying deep within the belly and in between the organs, this type should be a concern to you.

A healthier way of life is an easy solution to this issue. If a low calorie diet with fewer carbohydrates is consumed, the fat will slowly start to disappear. An individual should cut back on the amount they eat as well. This is done by monitoring food portions. Do not eat large quantities of sugar and eliminate saturated fats from your diet. To begin a fat loss fitness plan, talk with your doctor concerning which one is right for you.

While belly fat may be unpleasant, the overall fact is that it is unhealthy. If you don't have regular fat burning, health problems may arise. An individual can control excessive weight gain by learning how to lose belly fat, eating right, and living an active lifestyle. Before beginning any regimen, be sure to talk with your doctor.
