Scar Removal - What you should know about Removing Scars

by Martha Fitzharris

A scar will appear where a wound or sore has emerged. It is easily identified as a pinkish or light-brown patch of skin. A scar is made up of fibrous skin tissue that replaces healthy skin. In other words, a scar is the skin's natural way of protecting itself.

Every skin injury or wound heals with a scar. The appearance of a scar; however, depends on the type and extent of the wound, as well as how the individual's body heals.

Scar removal usually finds resistance with older or deeper scars. This has a lot to do with the fact that scar tissue if very different from normal skin. There is no hair growth on the scar tissue, and the skin becomes vulnerable to ultraviolet radiation.

Factors affecting scar formation

There are several factors that influence the severity of a scar. Here are a few:

1) The size and depth of the wound.

2) Where a wound is located on the body.

3) How much blood supply goes to the area affected.

4) Age of the person.

5) Type of skin.

Once a scar forms, it is permanent. Nonetheless, a scar can be made less visible with natural scar therapy or surgically procedures.

What Types of Scar Treatment are there?

*Treatment Keloid Scars: Keloids are scars that extend the edge of a wound or incision. They occur when the body continues to produce the tough fibrous protein known as collagen after a wound has healed. This type of scar is more common in dark-skinned people and is usually treated using steroid medication.

*Hypertrophic scars treatment: Unlike keloid scars, this type of scar maintains itself within the boundaries of the wound. They often improve on their own, even though it may take a year or more. Hypertrophic scars require steroid applications or in some cases may have to be improved surgically.

*Treatment acne scars: Acne scars can be either depressed or raised. Raised acne scars are formed in those people who develop keloids while depressed acne scars form as a result of loss of skin tissue at the acne site. Most acne scars are treated with home remedies that are not very effective, however the two main treatment methods for acne scars are still surgical or topical.

*Silicone scar therapy: Silicone scar therapy is a medical treatment created for improving the appearance of new and old scars. It is used mostly for post-surgery recovery to help scar tissue heal properly.

*Natural scar therapy: Natural scar therapy involves using products specially formulated with natural ingredients. Most of these products are created using emu oil, rosehip oil, or snail serum. These natural ingredients have proven effective in regenerating damaged skin tissue.

No matter which scar treatment procedure you choose, it will depend on a mix of factors. Whether you decide to use natural scar therapy as a scar healing treatment or prefer surgical procedures. It will all depend on your scar needs.
